CQII Quality Award Program

Since 2007, the CQII Quality Award Program has recognized Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) recipients, subrecipients, and/or affiliated individuals that have made outstanding progress in improving HIV care by implementing and sustaining quality improvement (QI) activities. The aim is to celebrate successes, increase the visibility of quality champions, and provide real world examples of QI for other HIV programs.

2025 CQII Quality Award Program Awardees
Measurable Improvements in HIV Care Involvement of People with HIV in Quality Improvement New to Quality Improvement Leadership in Quality Improvement

 

2025 award categories:
  • Measurable Improvements in HIV Care - This quality award recognizes a RWHAP recipient, subrecipient, or a group of recipients or subrecipients that has/have made impressive measurable improvements over time by addressing emergent issues and sustaining improvement efforts. The successful nominee is expected to have an established process to collect and analyze (e.g., calculate the numerator, denominator, and percentage) performance measure data at least quarterly, identify underlying root causes of emerging issues, specify specific improvement interventions that were undertaken to achieve measurable improvements, and outline sustainability efforts. The improvement effort should have a direct, positive impact on the health outcomes of people with HIV.
  • Involvement of People with HIV in Quality Improvement - This quality award recognizes the implementation of QI efforts based on input from people with HIV, or the designation of a person with HIV as the team leader. The nomination should outline the methodology used for continued involvement of people with HIV and showcase measurable outcomes. This quality award is
    given to a:
    • RWHAP recipient, subrecipient, group of recipients or subrecipients, or affiliated individual(s) that has/have effectively incorporated people with HIV into QI efforts, or
    • Person with HIV or group of people with HIV who has/have demonstrated outstanding commitment to partner with recipient(s) or subrecipient(s) to improve HIV care.
  • New to Quality Improvement (new category for 2025!) - This quality award is given to a RWHAP recipient, subrecipient, group of recipients or subrecipients, or affiliated individual(s) that is new to QI (i.e., those with little to no QI application experience, or less than two years of applying QI concepts in RWHAP contexts). This includes those who have effectively implemented QI activities, or to a person or group of people new to QI who has/have demonstrated outstanding commitment to improve HIV care through QI activities. The nomination should describe QI capacity development received (e.g., participation in trainings, etc.) and application of QI knowledge by those new to QI as well as the impact of their involvement in QI activities.
  • Leadership in Quality Improvement - This quality award is given to a RWHAP recipient, subrecipient, group of recipients or subrecipients, or individual(s) who has/have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to QI on the local, regional, or national level. The long-standing dedication to QI by the nominee has resulted in the implementation of effective and sustainable clinical quality management programs, innovative QI initiatives with measurable results that have benefited people with HIV, or regional improvement efforts to work across a network of HIV organizations.
